Everybody loves a good indoor, but from an efficiency point of view, outdoor organic seems to be the most sustainable way to grow cannabis. Is that true?

It seems logical to assume that indoor offers more consistent quality, but outdoor organic would be the most sustainable.

I was recently discussing indoor vs. outdoor with friends, and we concluded that it's sort of like a studio album vs. a live recording. The studio album is more controlled and therefore, more "perfect." But you kind of want to like the live recording more, because it feels more "real." Even though I know indoor marijuana is usually considered better, high quality outdoor marijuana seems more appealing, like the sun and the wind must have imbued the plants with some kind of unquantifiable specialness, like magic.

Cannabis grown organically outdoors is vastly superior in smell, taste, and quality. No indoor set up can ever beat what mother nature already gives us for free.

Caitlan - I love your studio v. live performance analogy. Sooo true!

It's too bad outdoor has such a bad name these days. I think people are just so worked up by the fact that they now have all these incredible strains at their fingertips (thanks to the development of the dispensary distribution system) that they're almost obsessed with finding the most crystally, hairy buds possible when they might actually be the best medicine.

There are groups like Tea House Collective that are committed to cultivating solely outdoors with sustainable practices and outdoor only strains. I hope that tastes continue to evolve and we see outdoor comes back into fashion.

Like Greenthumb says, outdoors can be far superior to indoor ... regardless of the look.

The only strain I know of that prefers hydro indoors is The Chem/Chem Dawg line. Almost any other strain will flourish outside during the California outdoor growing season.

Ultimately we are interested in passing down best practices to our children so that they may enjoy sustainably grown cannabis indefinitely in their own lives and the lives of their own children. Dank cannabis for generations.

O.o Green, have you grown Chem? That stuff FLOURISHES outside. Almost every sativa does. Most of the strains that grow better indoors are the indica strains.

Personally, I dont think that the best outdoor can touch the best indoor. Im referring to indoor soil only. Ive tasted some really good outdoor, but it only ever balanced out to about a mid/high grade indica.

What weighs more, a pound of bricks or a pound of feathers? A good herb is a good herb no matter how its grown.

Peeps have been brainwashed into thinking the prettiest hydro is always the best medicine and it's just not true. Poor outdoor has a bad name right now, but it will come back and come back strong eventually. This hydro fad will fizzle just like merlot did in the 90s. Sometimes the ugly weed is the dankest.

Not talkin about hydro. I prefer indoor soil to outdoor soil any day.

I agree 100% with Caitlin's studio album vs live album analogy. Perfect.

If this discussion is a continuum, here is the Outdoor Sun perspective to bring balance to all the lovely Indoor cannabis we see lately

One thing I can tell you with certainty is outdoor is priced significantly lower than indoor these days. This year's harvest has brought high quality outdoor to San Francisco dispensaris for as low as $200/oz ... and the buds selling for these prices are truly top shelf and can stand up to indoor that's going for twice the price.

I've been enjoying outdoor cannabis from SPARC in San Francisco. I am two ounces in to my first time experiment with California outdoor, and I am quite happy with my pain relief and level of alertness. Both Amnesia Lemon and Blackberry Kush have been powerful enough to meet my standards for effectiveness and the quality of the vapor is fine as well. My tongue is still searching for the qualities the sun and wind add to the plant. More research!

Headband outdoor has been in my pipe for 2 days now and I can say I'm a fan. I even like the "natural grassy" smell that I never get from dank indoor pot. The winds have worked at imbuing a panoply of flavors which high-pressure sodium lights could never bring forth. Delicious!
