Dispensary Review:

Arts District Healing Center

Comfortable Space with Wide Selection of Quality Meds

I was downtown this past weekend for an event at the LA Convention center, and I decided to make a stop at Arts District Healing Center before heading back home. My wife had mentioned it was one of the better downtown dispensaries, so I decided to head over and check it out.

Parking was extremely easy as ADHC has a good-sized parking lot adjacent to their building. The parking lot connects to a gated backyard area behind the dispensary where the check-in desk and waiting area is located. It was a refreshing change to be able to sit outside and fill-out my new patient paperwork compared to the cramped indoor waiting rooms at many other Los Angeles dispensaries. My recommendation was verified and the dispensary rules and practices were explained. I was also told that many free services are offered on a regular schedule at ADHC, including community meals, salsa dancing, tai chi and self defense lessons, live music, and local art showings.

One wall of the trade room is a chalkboard surface where the menu has been written on the wall. ADHC had a healthy selection of sativas, indicas and hyrbids that totalled around 30 different strains plus a variety of concentrates and edibles. Medications were available in a range of prices. The gram cap was $18. Although I only sampled one medicine on this visit, the quality and pricing of the medications that I saw looked above average.

Connected to the trade room is lounge area where a stage and screen for a projector are setup. There are several tables, chairs and couches here where patients can relax and medicate, and I assume this is the space where many of the free services and events are offered.

If you're in the downtown area, I would recommend visiting Arts District Healing Center. Their space is a refreshing change from many of the Los Angeles area dispensaries, they offer a variety of quality medicine at acceptable prices, and the people are friendly and compassionate.

Quality Daytime Medication

On my inaugural visit to Arts District Healing Center, I explained to the budtender that I was looking to pick-up a top-shelf sativa that would deliver a clear, yet powerful cerebral high. Upon hearing this, the budtender pulled out a jar of Tangerine Kush, telling me this was the strain for me. I prefer a budtender to pull a few strains for me, so I have some options to choose form. I find that when I'm only presented one strain, it's often because the dispensary's inventory is lacking and there really aren't many options ... or, less frequently, the strain presented is an exceptional medicine that fits my needs precisely and there's no need to consider anything else. Thankfully, the latter was the case today at ADHC.

This batch of Tangerine Kush had a strong citrusy smell with a sweat-like pungency. These buds were stinky and certainly worthy of the strain's name. They are the sort flowers you have to keep in a glass jar as the aroma will seep through a plastic bag or medicine bottle. The buds had a light green appearance, coated in sugary trichomes with fine, light orange hairs cropping up in certain areas. The body of the buds was fluffy with an acceptable density although part of this perceived density was probably from a bit too much moisture that remained from the cure. Had the buds been cured better, I would have considered a 5-star rating.

The burn was very smooth delivering a tangy flavor with subtle coffee undertones. This is an ideal medicine for those that are sensitive to harsh smoke. I found the high to be perfect for daytime with a lot of positive energy and focus. The effects were powerful, but no so much that I felt anxiety that I sometimes get from straight sativas. There was also a gentle body high, but this medicine provides mostly cerebral benefits and I would look elsewhere if you're seeking a medication for pain, insomnia, or loss of appetite.
