Ok Ok.. here it goes.. I came across this post and I feel compeled to reply and give some free info and dis.spell some rumors that Ive read on this thread... 1st off... I must say. RELAX PEOPLE! It soooo not that complicated. I read a post about someone taping an M&M container to his junk...Lmao. Way tooo over thought out. If you want to bring your Meds with you simply put them in a container and either carry them in your checked luggage or carry on baggage. (Dont get all Tony Montana on us. Just bring what you need).. And Obviously carry your scripts with you just incase you are stopped and have to answer questions.. I cant speak for airports outside on california but I know the CA airport I work at is just the same as SFO. If you carry it in your carry on just make sure you dont have a lot of liquids in your bag.. (silly as TSA is we are more worried about your Dasani Water then yur herbs). 99% of the time I would be more likey to stop your bag on the xray belt because you left a water in yur bag then because you have a bag of trees.. some people say put it in a mason jar.. but I would say leave it in a sack or maybe a reg medicine bottle. Just because they mason jars raise an eyebrow cuz most of the time they have some of Grandmas homemade jelly in them.... And thats not allowed??? (Silly I know).

Since some seem to be worried about "the dogs" let me just tell you what Ive been told from the dog handlers. Dogs can only be trainned for one thing. All dogs in the airports are trainned for explosives.. so dont trip! Thats all I can tell you about that..

And just cuz I thought it was funny Ill tell you... The only person Ive ever known to get busted at my airport for carrying herb in his bag.. well he got busted because he had 30+ pounds in a suitcase with 3 quarts of some sort of liquid in the same bag... Ended up he got popped bcuz of the liquid.

And well folks... thats all i got for you... Travel well and dont forget to take your laptops out of your bag and run them all by themselfs in a bin and dont forget to take your shoes off and take your toiletries out of your bag!

Sincerley, TSA X.Stoner!

I have flown out of California and back on a number of occasions with my Omicron, but have always packed it with my shaving gear in my checked baggage with a copy of my rec. I have noticed that "e-cigarettes" are on the posted list of prohibited items at TSA security checkpoints (for carry-on) and would probably stick with checked bags only even though it appears that others on this forum have not been hassled.

So I am a medical marijuana patient. I live in san Diego but am flying to Seattle for 5 days. I called san Diego PD to see if I could bring my Meds on the plane. The referred me to the bay police department who regulates the air port. Bay police Said I can bring it to the san Diego airport. They said make sure it is on your carry on and have your recommendation and expect a small delay. Said I may have to go through the secondary security process. I was assured no strip search. Just thought I would share my findings.

Has anyone had any experience flying out of SFO with kief, tinctures, edibles, etc? I will be going on vacation next week and want to bring medication, but I prefer not to smoke it

It has been super helpful to hear all your experiences! Even though I have read articles about how it is legal for patients (with ID card or doctor's recommendation) to fly out of SFO with medicine, I was still pretty uncomfortable with the idea until I heard first-hand stories of other people doing it.

Hey guys, I was researching about this and came across this blog. Great comments! Re: Traveling with marijuana from San Jose Airport (SJC). I am trying to go to Hawaii and I know they have medical marijuana cards themselves. So Im sure things wont be too strict out there. My main concern has been getting my bud out to Hawaii from CA. Came across this set of rules from SJC's website, flysanjose.com in their security tab.

"MEDICATIONS INCLUDING MEDICAL MARIJUANA »
Medication and related supplies are normally X-rayed. However, as a customer service, TSA now allows you the option of requesting a visual inspection of your medication and associated supplies.
You must request a visual inspection before the screening process begins; otherwise your medications and supplies will undergo X-ray inspection.
If you would like to take advantage of this option, please have your medication and associated supplies separated from your other property in a separate pouch/bag when you approach the Security Officer at the walk-through metal detector.
Request the visual inspection and hand your medication pouch/bag to the Security Officer.
In order to prevent contamination or damage to medication and associated supplies and/or fragile medical materials, you will be asked at the security checkpoint to display, handle, and repack your own medication and associated supplies during the visual inspection process.
Any medication and/or associated supplies that cannot be cleared visually must be submitted for X-ray screening. If you refuse, you will not be permitted to carry your medications and related supplies into the sterile area.
Travelers may be asked to show their prescription for medical marijuana."

So I'm figuring it should be safe as long as you follow their layout of how to go about it. Wish me luck!

Relax people...a lot of you are way over thinking this. TSA agent has it all right. Place all liquids, electronics, toiletries and any other things that they like to inspect in another bag. Place mmj in carry on and roll with it. I fly out of sfo alot and have never been stopped. I always bring 8ozs vac sealed to my uncle in a non mmj state. Cross country never a problem. Not that I have the balls, but I know a guy that makes the trip cross country at least once a month with at least 5lbs in his carry on. If you have a layover before your final destination, keep your silly azz in the air port.... Why would you want to go through screening again? Dude strapping shit to his shittt is going wayyy overboard... TSA is focused on bombs, and terrorist. Not mmj smokers! If they were after weed, the entire SF jail would be full of pot smokers..... Come on people

Just an FYI for Northern Cali folks.... If you ever fly out of Sonoma County Airport located in Santa Rosa ( about an hour north of San Francisco) , they have signs posted everywhere that medical marijuana will NOT be let through TSA checkpoint. So there is no question about it....if they see it or you claim it....it won't fly!
I wouldn't even try it.... they practically strip searched my 86 year old father (wheelchair bound) when his metal knee replacement set off detector and he nearly missed the flight! And he had medical travel doc that stated he had a metal knee!!
I guess you could say they (TSA) take their job a little too seriously there!

Anyone know what the story is at John Wayne airport in Orange County? I can't find any info about it except firsthand knowledge that the OC has a stick up its ass.

I too am curious about the policies at OC Airport. I will be flying from OC (John Wayne) to San Francisco next friday (the 13th no less) and while I feel pretty comfortable about the trip to SFO, I'm kind of nervous about what the guys are OC Airport will be like. When I flew to Vegas a while back, I was worried to bring anything on the plane with me so I shipped the meds to the hotel in Vegas from my work. Next day air so it was waiting for me. I called the desk to let them know a package would be waiting for me when I arrived and I picked it up when I got there. I didn't really want to do this again, I'd rather just carry it on if I can.

Does anyone have any experience with Orange County?

Just to update this thread...I flew from SJC (San Jose) to BWI (Baltimore) a few days ago for the holidays. I had 2 grams of wax (4 x .5 gram containers) and 4 Cheeba Chew deca-doses. All of this, and my vape pen, were in my carry on bag. Nothing was repackaged or in anyway hidden.

I had my recommendation and card on me just in case I was stopped by TSA...but to my surprise nothing was said at all. I did not call ahead, so I'm not sure if the "official" stance of local law enforcement inside of the terminals has changed.

Just thought I'd share this story. Had a lay over in the Vegas airport and was vaping in the smoking section the whole time :)

I take edibles on all my travels, international included. I take em out of their original packaging and into a baggie that I stick in my carry-on or luggage with other snacks. Never had a problem. But I understand that sometimes smoking is just nice.

Went to Denver about a week ago and brought some back when I flew home to the lone star state, through the security of DI A. I did get pulled aside for a Cajun spread I bought at Walmart though, i couldn't bring on the plane. Are you kidding me... They don't pay too much attention, cause my gud was right there in the security tub w/my keys & shoes and other shit going through the scanner. LMAO all the way home w/my gud.

I have flown out of both Oakland and SFO to SEA, DEN, JFK and DFW with my medicine over the past few years. I have placed my medicine in a sealed tupperware container, always had my paperwork in order and called the airport TSA and the police departments with jurisdiction in advance to confirm their policies. I did not declare my medicine to the TSA and have never been stopped or questioned going through security.
I was flying out of PHL when the TSA questioned my pax vaporizer; I told them it was a vibrator and they let me go.

Hey all, I know this is redundant, but I got a question about flying. I am heading out of LAX to PDX (portland, Oregon) and I have a layover in SFO for like 3 hours. I want to bring an extremely small amount of medicine with me, like a gram max so that I can medicate the night I land as it will be 1 am and no shops will be open. If i vacuum seal it, and put it in my carry on with my medical recommendation will I be ok? Shall I call local authorities and check policies and declare it? The reason I'm asking again (I see this question has been answered many times) is that it is now November 2016 and things change. Now Pot is legal in California but prop 64 scares me and don't know if this makes it worse to fly now. Anyway thanks in advance cheers!
