Bijou Wellness Center

Style on Bijou

Venturing into the great Colorado Springs one can see how very few dispensaries there really are compared to Denver. But the great thing about that is you are treated with time and care for your patient needs instead of being rushed out as a quick transaction. Bijou Wellness Center really was a treat to go into as they had a wonderful facility and outgoing staff. Upon entering this dispensary from the parking lot it reminded me of small trendy boutiques back east. I felt very comfortable and at ease there as the staff were very friendly and sweet. Upon getting my papers checked, I was given the tour and then escorted back to the bud room. Staff were all very knowledgeable about their medications and were able to give me the information I was seeking. They had a lovely selection of edibles, chocolates, lotions, smoking accessories, sodas, concentrates, candies and the most beautiful looking pancake hash I have seen to date. They had a very good variety of buds on the shelf but unfortunately I came when they were running low on stock. Even still, I was able to pick up a nice selection that I was very happy with. The prices were also very good and all product was grown organically.

Another cool thing about this dispensary was the fact that they took their own photos of their product. This little camera also worked as a microscope so that you could examine a bud of your choice live. What's better then seeing something your about to purchase live on a tv? Every little trichome was visible and nothing was more exciting then being able to see that. Bijou Wellness center doesn't stop there but also offers many other services for their patient care. They offer massage therapy, acupuncture, mental health counseling, chiropractic services and energy services. Bijou Wellness Center is definitely a place I would recommend people to visit for it's location, selection, comfortability factor and great patient care.

Dairy Queen

Upon entering the bud room of Bijou Wellness Center I had the intent to find a strain of Sativa I have never come across before. As jar after jar of buds graced under my nose one strain perked my interest as it was a smell I have never experienced before. Not only did it smell very exotic but the name of the strain was very amusing to me as well. The aroma of the bud was that of an aged cheese mixed with some diesel, skunk and tart fruit undertones. The bud itself was not very aesthetically pleasing to me because it was not manicured very well. It had a "wild" quality and blunt edge trim to it's look that I did not care for very much. There was a nice dusting of crystals on the bud that distracted from the jaggedness of it's look. The gram I received was cured very well and ground up very nicely in my grinder.

Vaporizing this strain was very smooth and really sent your taste buds on a very complex journey. Notes of aged rustic cheese, tart citrus fruits, a musty diesel, earthy pine taste and spice hit your taste buds. If you took up to 3 puffs you were coasting on a nice Sativa high that was clear headed with much energy. If you took more than 3 puffs the Indica part of this strain will begin to take over and get you super relaxed. Both effects provided great pain relief and melted away any stress from the day. This is a recommended strain on the sheer fact of its unique smell and wonderful medicinal properties.

Spirit of '76

I've heard many stories of the rarity of this strain and how wonderful it really is once you get your hands on it. Well this bud lives up to its hype and reputation. It is a beautiful bud covered in a glittering film of trichomes with speck of purple. The smell is really quite skunky with undertones of resin from a pine tree. The leaves themselves are very sticky and leave a glistening coating all over your fingers. My advice with this particular strain would be to make sure you only use a grinder so you can catch all the kief that will fall from the leaves.

Spirit of '76 has a very citrus yet spicy taste. You have to take a slow drag with this one otherwise you may end up coughing pretty hard. The taste and mouth feel is very pleasurable but the scent will easily mark the room you are in. It is advised that you keep your doors and windows closed with this one or your neighbors might smell whats going on. The high is very upbeat, energizing, euphoric, happy go lucky, and positive. Any potential stress or anxiety will quickly be lifted away with this one. This strain is a must have for people looking for a quick pick me up during the day.

Wellspring Collective

In the Neighborhood

Wellspring Collective is located in Denver on the busy street of S. Broadway that has just as many dispensary shops as Starbucks. Driving this street you pass wellness center after wellness center to the point one would ask, "Which one is the best on the block?". The answer is simple as Wellspring Collective is the most professional dispensary on the block whereas the competition are merely shady stop and go pick up joints the size of a two car garage. This dispensary offers ample parking both in the front and back of the building. On the outside the building is lined with security cameras and the building itself blends effortlessly into its surroundings.

When you first walk in the waiting and check in room it is a bit bleak with air of a slight institutional feel. You are greeted by a security guard behind what appears to be bullet proof glass. Once he checks your papers you have to sign needed documents to enter the back room. When the papers are in order he allows you to enter the main room. The front of the dispensary and the main room are like night and day. Experiencing this disharmony is a little disorienting to the senses. The main room is a fresh 60's retro style that is very clean and vibrant. This room was 100% more comfortable to be in then the sterile front room.

The bud tender was very friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful in finding your ideal selection of medicine. Wellsprings Collective displays all of their products in a glass case that are labeled with strain information. They have a small but diverse strain collection to pick from that would cover all of your bases. They are known for their Indica strain "Ingrid" as it is supposed to be very heavy. They also have a small but good selection of kief, hash, edibles, joints, pipes and books. They run the shop from 10am till 7pm daily which is great if you work late.

Overall, this wasn't one of the best dispensaries I've been to but it was the best in terms of location compared to its neighboring dispensaries on the street. Wellspring Collective carries nice products for reasonable prices and is a good dispensary if you are in the neighborhood.

Strong Indica Laced with Paranoia

Wellspring Collective is known across the Denver Metro area for this strain as the heaviest Indica around. Just hearing this got me very excited as signature strains usually turn out to be quite the treat. From the outside the bud was very dense, covered in thick trichomes and adorned in a decent amount of pistils. The smell of the plant was very strange and very potent which makes you want to keep a tight lid on this one. A citric pine smell mixed with paint thinner, Diesel and decay. A very strange smell to say the least. You can tell that they took their time with this plant as the buds were cured very well and produced a nice resin when ground up.

When vaporized this strain produced a somewhat irritating vapor to my lungs which made me cough a good bit. The effects of this strain did not come right on but was rather a creeper that hit you very hard. It was seriously the most narcotic feeling Indica I have had in a long time. For two good hours I was blissful and comfortable until I fell asleep. But only to wake up an hour later with one of the most severe cases of paranoia I've experienced. I ended up falling asleep and waking up over 16 times that night as the strain caused insomnia for me. It is very rare that I experience this type of reaction but I truly believe that the plant wasn't flushed properly or enough. When a plant isn't flushed properly fertilizers, salts and other toxins can remain in the bud which in turn can cause medicine to acquire unwanted effects. Between the smell, the way it vaporized and the effects this is a strain that I feel people will either love or hate. Because of this reaction I will never touch the strain again unless I can get a guarantee that is was indeed flushed properly.
