Introduced in 2003 by Ken Estes, Granddaddy Purple (or GDP) is a famous indica cross between Purple Urkle and Big Bud. This California staple inherits a complex grape and berry aroma from its Purple Urkle parent, while Big Bud passes on its oversized, compact bud structure. GDP flowers bloom in shades of deep purple, a contrastive backdrop for its snow-like dusting of white crystal resin.

Its potent psychoactive effects are clearly detectable in both mind and body, delivering a fusion of cerebral euphoria and physical relaxation. While your thoughts may float in a dreamy buzz, your body is more likely to find itself fixed in one spot for the duration of GDP’s effects. Like most heavy indica varieties, Granddaddy Purple is typically pulled off the shelf to treat pain, stress, insomnia, appetite loss, and muscle spasms.

Symptoms & Conditions: anxiety, cramps, depression, inflammation, insomnia, muscle spasms, pain: muscle/joint, pain: neuropathic

Seems like everything they're growing, its just coming to us A-1 ,and High powered. I love the effects of GDP. It gives me a good relaxed feeling , and its a wonderful social game night strain for me . It packs a great taste , and the big thing for me is I was still able to function . which most Indica's just knock me straight out. I love the pain relief that this strain contains. You feel a relief that sends you to the moon !! Thank You Center City for this beautiful Indica!!

Granddaddy Purple - Great indica for sativa lovers

After trying Granddaddy Purple by Capital City Cultivation for the first time, it's immediately established itself as one of my favorite indica strains. The buds are nice and fluffy with a sweet, berry smell. The flavor follows suit with strong notes of grape and berry. At 18.3% THC, Granddaddy Purple is a moderately strong strain. It's effects are very peaceful, mentally and physically relaxing and mellow. It also great for pain and got rid of a painful cramp in my upper back. Unlike many indica strains, Granddaddy Purple won't keep you locked on the couch or make you melt into your bed but it may give you a nice case of the munchies.

Potency: 7.5/10
Effects: Peaceful, relaxing, chill
Vape Temp: 392 F for maximum flavor, 410 F for max effects
Ideal for: anxiety, pain, stress, lack of appetite

Super high quality indica

Granddaddy purple is one of my favorite indicas! It is highly potent and very euphoric with strong relaxation affects. The taste is both earthy and sweet which really turns out to be an interesting flavor. This is a very relaxing strain. While sedating, it is slightly more functional than other indicias with similar levels of potency. There is intense psychoactive feelings and deep body relaxation qualities that are awesome. This is top notch indica!

WARM MEDICINE

Aaaah, warm medicine in all my cracks and crannies! These tiny little buds of GDP warm up my nervous system to a lovely temperature. I feel relaxed, happy, like I'm taking a bath in warm warm honey. Fills in all my interstices. There is also a focused psychoactivity with lots of color. Great for watching a movie, worshipping Onan, napping.

Refreshing Indica

Granddaddy Purple is famous worldwide for both its great strength and unique properties. It is an identifiable indica, and yet in some ways the strain almost feels like a sativa because it has absolutely zero couch-locking results. There is nothing else like it.

Potency = 9.25

Effects = elevating, harmonious, and a grounding euphoria

Ideal for: people with a chronic condition or need who prefer indicas and that are looking for a primarily cerebral effect (it is a perfect workhorse for these folks)

Mixes best with: Sour Diesel, Amnesia Haze, and Critical Kush

*Holistic Remedies' 2nd Best Strain
*DC's 4th Best Strain

My special treat!

I was surprised to see that I hadn't yet left a review for this strain, as it has become the one I wait and hope for to return to the shelves. It may not be my absolute favorite of all, but the experience of GDP seems unique among the strains. The sweet taste of grape is unmistakable after just a huff of the flower buds. After smoking it, you feel you may as well have just finished some sugary, frozen berry pop pulled from the back of the freezer.

The plant is tinged with plum but the burnt red hairs dominate the supply at TWC, giving the bud a fiery tinge. The crystal coating on the bud is fine and uniform, the buds themselves are always exceptionally fresh (selling it as fast as it's harvested, maybe?). I've almost always gotten my gram in a solid bud. This is actually the remainders from two larger buds, as there is generally a gram-per-day limit on the strain. Even when the sample tray showed smaller buds, I asked kindly and the staff was happy to fish out a solid bud for me. I'm sure it would have done that for any strain, and the GDP would have been just as good in two smaller buds as one, but the extra effort in customer service ought to go noted somewhere. If I preferred the smaller buds I'm sure they'd have been happy to accommodate that, too!

If anything prevents the GDP from reaching the upper echelon of my truly loved strains it would be the limitation on its functionality as a medicine, as the heavy indica effects are generally only preferred later in the day. You don't get the creative stirring and buzz that I simply prefer from a robust sativa, but one knows that when one buys an indica. And if I felt it fair, I might also ding it for being one of the pricier (though by no means one of the most expensive) options at TWC. But this restriction on the bud's use adds at least a small degree to the sense of its peculiarity and charm. Like dessert after a meal, if I have a stash of GDP I will often look forward to it as the kicker for a long day. But just because I prefer a sativa, and smoke more during the day, doesn't mean I feel comfortable selling this bud short. There's a reason I'm always eager for it to come back onto the shelves! 4.5 stars if I could so halves, so we'll let the exceptional customer service round things up to 5.

Fluffy n frosty purple power flower

This is my favorite alternative indica when TWC is out of OG Kush. Ive tried each strain & GDP gives a more euphoric & comical experience with a strong body hold like the master kush. Its smell is a traditional skunky oak with lime & citrus lingering behind. Inhale is smooth & trickles the throat as heavy hitters usually do. Great distinct taste. This batch is fresh & the trichomes look glossy white. Its soo good! At times I wish it was hybrid or good for all day use. I hate waiting for night to use such a great plant!

Granddaddy Purple, Berry Tasty, Berry Strong!

I am always excited when new medical cannabis strains come to my favorite dispensary, the Takoma Wellness Center, and they even sent out an email this week letting patients know they have a new strain out this week called “Granddaddy Purple”. The email said Granddaddy Purple, or “GDP”, is a very strong muscle-relaxing Indica. I was thrilled because I primarily use Indicas to treat my muscle spasms and stiffness due to fibromyalgia. The great crew over a TWC fixed me up with somewhat dark, olive green flower mixed with orange hairs, and a sheen of purple glistening with white terpenes. (See pic) The THC level of GDP is very high, at 20%. The only other cannabinoid measured was CBD and it was at 1%. I imagine the other 100 or so other cannabinoids are in there somewhere. In my research I found out that plants get a purple color from flavonoids, so GDP looks and smelled rich in flavonoids.

The bouquet of GDP as you break the flower apart is a very sharp, spicy, earthy aroma, with hints of cedar, sage, pepper, tabasco and licorice. I also sensed a tiny sour side with hints of citrus and lilac. There is also an ammonia-type tinge to it all, very musky.

I tried my delicious looking flower of GDP in a water pipe, and the taste and smoke at first is very mild and creamy, but then the smoke expands rapidly in your lungs and tends to make one cough a tad. What makes this strain so great though is the aftertaste! As you exhale GDP, you taste berry big time, and the aftertaste is very yummy. This is the best tasting strain I have ever tried for sure. In fact the berry aftertaste stays with you for a long time after exhaling. My lungs were not irritated even though the smoke expanded, and GP is a very, very pleasant smoke. I didn't get incredible "munchie attacks", but GDP did dry out my mouth somewhat, so have some water or coconut water and maybe some berries standing by.

The Indica effects of GDP are felt very quickly for my muscles relaxed almost instantly, especially around the neck and head area. The Indica muscle spasm reducing effects ripple out through the body, and melts away stiffness and stress. I soon felt GDP's Sativa-like effects a minute or two later, as the psychoactive cannabinoids of GDP come whooshing in and you are floating on a cloud of euphoria. GDP makes ones thoughts wander, so this is better for relaxation or night time. GDP is a strong Indica, so it does cause drowsiness after awhile. The effects of GDP lasted very long, over an hour after just one or two puffs from the water pipe. GDP is one of the most potent strains I have ever tried when it comes to duration. I imagine using GDP in tincture or edible form would almost give you all-day relief.

GDP is a strain that is especially good for any muscle related health issues, such as fibromyalgia, MS, Parkinson's and others. It is also great for depression, PTSD and anxiety disorders, for the calming psychoactive properties are very strong and effective. GDP is also good for treating pain and “icky feeling” issues like nerve pain, glaucoma, endometriosis, migraines, PMS, headaches, upset stomach and more. GDP has a calming effect on the body, nerves, and digestive system, so it is a good strain for appetite and digestive issues such as IBS, nausea, or diabetes. Since it is a strong muscle-relaxant GDP is ideal for insomnia and relaxation issues. I would also recommend GDP for skin related health issues such as eczema, psoriasis or shingles. Try the new, awesome Granddaddy Purple at Takoma Wellness Center today! You’ll be berry glad you did. : )
