Medical Marijuana Cooking: Vegan Headband Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola Drops

Text and Recipe by Jessica Catalano

Vegan edibles? It seems that most cannabis recipes that target the homemade edible audience tend to neglect vegan or vegetarian options for cannabis patients. Because of this, vegan cannabis patients are left to tinker with existing recipes, trying to substitute items in the recipe for vegan products. Unfortunately this results in a drastic taste difference as not all vegan products are comparable flavor wise to their non-vegan counterpart.

Medical Marijuana Vegan Headband Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola DropsThis recipe is an easy and delicious way to medicate at home while enjoying a treat that is 100% vegan and does not sacrifice flavor. The Headband adds a unique earthy and slight piney taste with undertones of spice. This strain pairs beautifully with the complex nutty flavors of the peanut butter, peanuts, flax seeds and granola. The mild and sweet chocolate notes combined with the agave nectar meld with the earthy and nutty flavors adding a syrupy hint that really ties all of the flavors together.

Headband is the cross of Sour Diesel, OG Kush and Master Kush. It is a hybrid strain that is Indica dominant. This strain balances pain relief with a clear minded euphoria, relaxation and tranquility. This is the perfect strain to use in edibles when you plan to medicate after a long hard day at work. Enjoy Vegan Headband Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola Drops with a glass of craft brewed ale or your favorite cup of hot beverage. With each bite of this edible and each sip of your favorite drink, you will feel the comfort of relaxation wash over you, ridding your body of any stress. Enjoy!

Mise en Place:
6 grams finely ground Headband
6 grams Headband sieve hash
1 1/2 cups vegan granola
1/2 cup vegan rice crisps
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup vegan chocolate chips
1/4 cup agave nectar
1/4 cup almond extract that is a water, oil and alcohol blend
1/4 cup vegan hot coco powder
3 tablespoons oil vanilla extract
2 tablespoons vegan butter
3 tablespoons almond milk
2 heaping tablespoons of peanuts
1 teaspoon flax seeds

Directions:
In a pan on the very lowest setting combine the vegan butter, almond extract, oil vanilla extract, Headband cannabis and the Headband sieve hash. Let this mixture cook for 40 minutes and then add the peanut butter. Combine the ingredients by constantly stirring until a uniform consistency. Now add in the peanuts and flax seeds. Cook this peanut butter mixture for another 10 minutes. Now stir in the hot coco powder, agave nectar and almond milk making sure to get the mixture to a smooth uniformity. Cook for a final 10 minutes then turn off the stove but leave the pan on the burner to absorb the remaining heat. This will keep the peanut butter mixture nice and warm while you prepare the second step.

In a medium sized metal bowl, add in the granola and rice crisps. Pour the peanut butter mixture over the grains and stir this mixture until the granola is evenly coated. Let this mixture set for 5 minutes. With your hands, roll this mixture into 2 dozen 2-inch balls and set on a flipped sheet pan or on wax paper. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and drizzle the chocolate over the granola drops. Place your Headband Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola Drops in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes. You need to store these delicious bad boys in a Tupperware container in the refrigerator. Pull from the fridge when in need of your medication and enjoy.
